Angioplasty Surgery Procedure For Your Heart Benefit

To help your heart, you might want to know more about the angioplasty surgery procedure. Due to unhealthy lifestyles and the aging factor, the arteries of the heart can have a blockage by fatty deposits called plaque. Plaque causes the arteries to constrict, thereby reducing the blood supply to the heart.

This condition triggers angina or heart pain which is the most common symptom of artery blockage. When the drug is no longer able to help improve blood flow to the heart, then the surgical procedure will generally advised. One commonly performed surgical procedure is angioplasty, introduced by Dr. Andreas Gruentzig in the 1970s.

Angioplasty starts with giving local anesthesia so the patient does not feel pain during the procedure. Furthermore, a tube (hose) thin called a catheter inserted into an artery in the leg. The catheter is guided to the aorta with the aid of some sort of wire.

Then the dye is injected into the coronary arteries that followed X-ray examination to help the physician determine the location of a blockage in the artery. Then the catheter is guided to the location and subsequent blockage by inserting a balloon catheter into the artery.

Then inflate the balloon that is used to compress the blockage. Doctors may develop balloon several times to expand the occlusion. Stents may be installed around the location of the blockage to keep the artery open. A contrast dye is inserted again into the arteries to check for blockages remaining.
