Angioplasty surgery risk may scare you but doesn’t mean you can’t access any information about it. Category percutaneous angioplasty surgery intervention (PCI) and is not considered a major heart surgery. This procedure helps restore blood flow to the heart in cases of coronary heart disease or coronary artery disease.
Angioplasty, also known as percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA). This term means through the skin (percutaneous), in the blood vessel (transluminal), which is associated with cardiac arteries (coronary), and repair of blood vessels (angioplasty). In this invasive surgery, the space created by inserting and inflating a small balloon in the blocked artery.
Small balloon will make the plaque depressed (pressing) to the arterial wall so that more space is formed for the flow of blood. Thereafter, the balloon deflated and removed from the back of the arteries. So that arteries do not return to deflate (sticky), the doctor will insert a stent or a kind of small wire to prop the artery to keep it open.
There are several risks that need to be known before deciding to perform angioplasty.
- Complications involving bleeding at the site of catheter insertion as well as in some cases the formation of a blood clot at the site of surgery are some of the risks that may occur.
- Some patients develop cardiac arrhythmias and cardiac dysrhythmia after performing this procedure.
