Loss of sensation

According to Dr. Hilda Hutcherson, a clinical professor of obstetrics and gynecology at Columbia University in New York, 10 to 18 percent of women who have undergone breast implant surgery still feel no sensation in the nipple area five years after their surgery.

Breast pain

There is definitely a pain the first few weeks after breast implant surgery, but some patients continue to experience pain from occasional, mild discomfort to sharp persistent pain in their chests.

Additional surgery

Breast implants are not made to last forever, and those who have them usually will undergo migration, rupture or scarring that would require additional surgery to correct this problem.

Rupture and Migration

When saline-filled implants tear or rupture, they deflate and must be removed through another operation. Silicone implants were ruptured not only deflated, and sometimes it can be difficult to say that they are leaking. Therefore, those who have silicone implants are encouraged to get an MRI at least once every three years. Leaking silicone implants can cause hardening of the breast tissue, swelling, pain and burning.

The scar tissue

Capsular contracture, otherwise known as hardening of the tissue surrounding the implant, has been cited by the FDA as a known risk of breast implant surgery. These tissues can lead to scars on them with implants are not able to produce enough milk to breastfeed, and could decrease the effectiveness of mammograms and breast exams health.
