Double Eyelid Surgery

The term double eyelid is a layman’s term used to describe the folds in the skin above the eye lids, and hang onto the skin folds when the eyes open. The medical term for double eyelid is “eyelid crease above the eye” or “fold cover” for short, or “fold supratarsal”, or “folding supratarsal”.Folds are responsible for the double eyelid is caused by fibrous connections between the bottom of the eyelid skin and levator muscles that pull the eyelid upward when the eyes open.

So, when the eye is open, the upper part of the levator muscles also pull the skin into folds along, deepening the crease line and create folds. The absence of a double eyelid is particularly evident among racial Oriental (Chinese, Japanese, and Korean). This pristine character of their race (genetic). What causes the loss of double eyelid? The lack of connection between the fibrous tissue beneath the skin and levator muscle resulted in a loss of folds and crease lines.

The absence of eyelid crease makes the eye look smaller, less bright and less sharp. Eyelashes are also less visible because it tends tilted downward and inward. Moreover, slack skin and bags under the eyes tend to be more visible when started to appear due to aging. Thus, eyelid without folds tends to ripen earlier and faster.

On the contrary, the double eyelid tends to make eyes look bigger, brighter, and younger, with the lashes more visible slopes upward and outward. All of this results in a more attractive appearance of the eye. Therefore, true what they say that no matter how beautiful your eyes even without the double eyelid crease, but it would look better with the double eyelid crease.

How do double eyelid surgery done? The most important to make the upper eyelid crease is made, establish, and maintain the lost connection between the skin and the bottom of the levator muscle. This is achieved by using a thread (stitches) that connects both structures along the desired fold line.
