Elisabeth Shue is an American actress, who was born under Libra sun sign in Wilmington, Delaware. She is the daughter of Anne Brewster and James William Shue a one-time congressional candidate, lawyer, and real estate developer. She was attended Columbia High School, in Maplewood, New Jersey, and then continued study to Wellesley College . Since then she started to appear in commercial before continued study to Harvard University.

Elisabeth Shue career
During her studies, she earns a little pocket money by turning a few television commercials. In 1984, she landed her first film role, that of the girlfriend of Ralph Macchio in Karate Kid (The Karate Kid); the same year she played a teenage girl soldiers in the series Call to Glory. Then she went to Harvard, where she studied political science.
She continues to turn in a few films, including 1988 Cocktail with Tom Cruise, but the roles of “nice girl” does not augur a great career. In 1992, her brother Andrew gets an important role in the series Melrose Place, even eclipsing his sister. But it comes back in front of the poster in 1995 in the film Leaving Las Vegas with the role of a prostitute coming to the aid of a suicidal alcoholic (played by Nicolas Cage), a role which earned her a nomination for the Oscar best Actress. This film by Mike Figgis will mark the turning point in her career.
She followed therefore successful films such as The Saint (1997) Deconstructing Harry (1997, directed by Woody Allen), Palmetto (1998) or The Hollow Man (2000).
