Her mother Patricia is a speech teacher and educational/family therapist, and her father Henry Dwight Sedgwick V, a venture capitalist.Sedwick sun sign is a Leo and she has Jewish heritage from her mother side. When she was four years old, her parents was divorce and then she live with her mother who remarried to en Heller, an art dealer when she was six years old. Sedgwick entered Friends Seminary and attended Sarah Lawrence College for education. She then continued study to the University of Southern California and graduating with theater degree.

She then made appearance in silver screen around 1990s by appearing in some films such as Singles (1992), Heart and Souls (1993), Something to Talk About (1995) and Phenomenon.
